Personality

What are your personality traits? Can we define and label them? I really enjoy studying people, both from a psychology point of view, but also from a spiritual point of view, individually and collectively. There are a few tools which I use to help me make generalizations about human-kind or to get to know specific people who cross my path. One of these are relational psychology tests, which are kind of guided meditation exercises which utilize free-association to delve into your psyche, such as used in Exercise #3 below. This one is based on a symbolic journey that works kind of like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story. Common ones include The Forest, The Castle, The Oasis, and the Cube. There are many different versions. These may be less scientific, but they're great for personal introspection.  Journal Exercise #3:  A Walk in the Woods This is a guided imagery psychology test, and so there are no right or wrong answers. But, it is important that you allow yourself to fully v...

Talents

What are your talents? What inspires your interest?  The terms "talents" and "skills" are often used synonymously. However, I do think there is a subtle difference. I think there are certain things which come more naturally or easily and others which require diligent practice and study. One might notice this most in talents such as artistic or athletic "gifts" which some seem to be born with. Perhaps they are genetically predisposed to these talents, or perhaps their familial or societal environment helps them develop them early, or some combination of the two. But, I believe the difference is mostly minute. I believe that the keys to developing any talent are desire and practice. Do you know what your talents are? I think we often consider "talent" as a concrete, demonstrable skill, but I would suggest that there are many less visible attributes which could also be considered talents. For examples:     The ability to be patient and nurturing wit...

Self-Discovery

How do we discover ourselves? I spoke to each of us having a unique and irreplaceable personal value. Discovering who you are can take many pathways. But, let's take a moment to discuss and dissect what I meant by "I see myself as a collection of talents both developed and potential, and personality traits some shared in degrees and some unique, and attributes or “virtues” both light and dark, as well as a presence of conscious awareness and will, with the power of choice and soul-deep desires" .  There are several different aspects to self reflected in that sentence: talents (developed skills and potential) personality traits moral and ethical alignment (or "virtues") degree of self-awareness power of choice power of desire (manifestation potentiality) I'll discuss each of these areas in more detail. You may wish to have a notebook and pen handy while reading this book, as I will occasionally provide exercises for the reader's self-reflection. I think ...

Introduction and Disclaimer

In this blog, I have a desire to capture some of the philosophical, metaphysical and personal truths that I've spent my life searching to uncover. I will post about once per week. I don't claim, in any way, to have the answers or any indisputable truths to share. But, it is my belief that we are not meant to be alone, to walk alone... I don't believe that we can make it that way. In fact, I don't believe that it is possible to truly learn from oneself. I think we require others to gain truly new information, insights and thoughts. It is only when we connect together that we actually grow outside of our own boundaries and become more. No man nor woman is an island. I think this is a fundamental truth that it feels like the world has forgotten. So, to this end, I wish to open up a dialog. I will share my ideas with you here, and perhaps someday, someway, my reader will share their thoughts with me. And in this way, we will both become more.  self-ac·tu·al·i·za·tion noun t...
